Dental Surgery Pregnant

Wisdom tooth pain while pregnant?

I am almost 12 weeks pregnant. The past two weeks I have had horrible jaw pain on the right side. Before I became pregnant I got dental x-rays that showed that I needed to have my right wisdom tooth removed. However, since I live in a small town where the dental surgeon only comes once a month, he was booked up for several months and I became pregnant before I could get it done. It didn’t really hurt before, but now it hurts like crazy and I can’t even sleep very well. I’ve tried icing it, massaging my jaw, ect. The only thing that works is Tylenol. I don’t really want to keep taking tylenol all the time throughout the rest of my pregnancy. Do you think I should get it out? I don’t think it’s infected or anything, just very painful. Is it worse to take a lot of tylenol of to have the surgery to get it out while I’m still pregnant? I don’t think I can stand another 6 months of this!

please discuss with your obgyn or family doctor about your over the counter medication use, this is also the perfect question or questions to ask the doctor about dental surgery. they doctor is the best & most qualified to answer this since it will not only impact your health but the health of your child. now-days there are many dental surgeries that can be done safely while you are pregnant and no harm will come to your child. but you’ll need to inquire with the proper dentist once you have consulted your doctor. i would not suggest living with a wisdom tooth problem for the rest of your pregnancy. this could lead to a very bad infection and that will not be good any good for you & the child you are pregnant with. so i strongly suggest anything that will have an effect on your health should be consulted by a medical doctor. you should be able to have surgery just fine. they don’t put you under for a wisdom tooth unless you request it and in your case i would advise to remain awake. best wishes hun.
